Dead Ahead exploded onto the New England music scene in the fall of 2024, turning their weekly residency at Sanctuary in Maynard, MA, into a must-see event. Rooted in the Grateful Dead, they deliver high-energy, feel-good performances packed with deep jams, soaring harmonies, and nonstop grooves. Drawing inspiration from Little Feat and The Allman Brothers Band, they stand out with an ever-expanding repertoire that blends Dead classics, deep cuts, and originals for a fresh, dynamic show every night.
At the core is the powerhouse husband-and-wife guitar duo, Ryan and Sonya Rae Taylor. Ryan, a virtuosic guitarist known for his masterful slide playing, brings grit and soul, while Sonya Rae—a true triple threat as a singer, guitarist, and former Nashville staff songwriter—adds raw power and finesse. On drums, Alex MacDougall delivers gutsy, soulful vocals, a rare force in the jam scene. The lineup is rounded out by Justin Lopes on keyboards, Matt Caporale on bass, Joe Peck on guitar and vocals, and Brendan Tommaney on percussion, adding infectious energy and deep rhythmic texture.
